Our Mission

The mission of the Whitney Young Children’s Foundation is simple yet profound: to encourage children and young adults to triumph despite life’s challenges and to dream, live, love and laugh in ways previously unimaginable.

We dedicate ourselves to supporting organizations that align with our vision of nurturing potential and embracing a future brighter than ever imagined possible.

Our Story: Remembering Whitney

Our Story: Remembering Whitney

The Whitney Young Children’s Foundation was conceived out of our deepest love and respect for Whitney whose spirit was defined by her vibrant personality and her love of children.  Her amazing spirit frequently made per the pied piper for young children.

Initially just an idea borne of profound loss, defining what WYCF would become was a journey—from articulating our mission to cultivating robust financial support for children and young adults facing life’s toughest challenges.

Why does the WYCF Exist?

Why does the WYCF Exist?

Whitney’s passing was not just a moment of grief but a spark for a greater purpose.  We realized the potential of channeling our collective sorrow into a force for substantial good.

Whitney’s passing was not just a moment of grief but a spark for a greater purpose.  We realized the potential of channeling our collective sorrow into a force for substantial good.

The Whitney Young Children’s Foundation stands as a living tribute to Whitney’s love for life and her innate ability to connect with and enrich the lives of young people. The Foundation strives to empower them to dream, live, love, and laugh in ways previously unimaginable, turning Whitney’s legacy into a continuing outpouring of hope and practical support.

How We Operate

From a nascent idea to a thriving foundation, our journey has been one of passion fueled by community support.  Thanks to the invaluable assistance from friends, legal advisors, and the community, WYCF was officially incorporated and granted tax-exempt status by 2007. This milestone enabled us to expand our impact exponentially. We ensure that every dollar donated is invested into programs that directly benefit children and young adults. Thus, we personally pay ALL administrative expenses, including website, secretarial and stationery expenses. In addition, we carefully vet the organizations we support to ensure that the recipients reap the desired benefits.

Our donors have shown incredible creativity and generosity, contributing through various means:

  • Cash donations

  • Stock gifts

  • Bequests

  • Honorariums in personal and memorial capacities

  • Group donations from book clubs and sororities

  • Employee-led contributions to honor leaders
